About the Role

The Minnesota Star Tribune is looking for a Software Engineering Intern to join our Product Engineering team. In this role, you'll have the opportunity to learn how we build and maintain the digital products that power our award-winning news platform. This internship is ideal for someone who is early in their software engineering journey and eager to gain real-world experience in a collaborative and inclusive environment. You'll work alongside experienced engineers and have opportunities to contribute to both internal and external tools. This is a hybrid position based in Minneapolis which can be flexible based on any ongoing coursework you may have. We are targeting 20 hours a week for this role.

Key Responsibilities

Learn to build and maintain software with support from your team
Assist with small frontend or backend tasks using TypeScript and frameworks like React or NextJS
Collaborate with designers, product managers, and engineers to understand and implement features
Participate in team activities such as standups, sprint planning, and code reviews
Gain exposure to how we deploy and support production systems

Requirements

Some experience with coding, either through coursework, personal projects, or previous internships
Interest in web development and modern frameworks like React, NextJS, NestJS or similar
Familiarity with JavaScript, Typescript, or similar languages
Curiosity, willingness to learn, and the ability to ask good questions
