Software Engineer (Purchasing)

About the Role

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable, secure, and high-performance backend systems using C# and the .NET ecosystem.
• Build and evolve services that handle virtual card lifecycle management, including issuance, balance tracking, transaction flows, and settlement.
• Support complex payment flows such as pre-orders and backorders, where funding and fulfillment can be decoupled or delayed.
• Handle real-world edge cases in transaction processing, such as blind refunds, over-captures, and disputing transactions.
• Work with incremental and partial authorizations, ensuring speed and reliability in time-sensitive authorization flows.
• Contribute to system performance optimization and reduction of complexity.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product management, risk, data) to reduce fraud losses and improve transaction volume efficiency.
• Support digital wallet integrations for adding virtual cards for in-store purchases.
• Participate in architectural discussions, planning sessions, and feature design.
• Share knowledge, promote best practices, and coach junior engineers to foster a high-performance culture.
• Engage in continuous improvement through process and technology enhancements.
• Support system scaling, maintenance, and evolution to accommodate new issuer integrations and card capabilities.
• Contribute to a blameless culture and adapt to a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional experience in backend software engineering.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Proven experience building scalable, reliable, and secure applications using C# and the .NET ecosystem.
• Strong understanding of architectural patterns such as event sourcing, domain-driven design, and microservices.
• Hands-on experience designing, building, and scaling applications on Microsoft Azure, ideally in high-volume environments.
• Familiarity with Azure services such as Cosmos DB, Service Bus, App Configuration, and Key Vault.
• Experience with Azure functions in a production environment, including building, deploying, and monitoring serverless workflows.
• Exposure to payment systems or transaction processing, including working with card networks, issuers, or payment gateways.
• Proactive attitude, strong attention to detail, and ability to produce high-quality work within deadlines.
• Experience contributing to large-scale process migrations and system efficiency improvements.
• Familiarity with relational database design, schema optimization, and data integrity; experience with CQRS is a plus.
• Demonstrated use of AI in professional roles.

• Knowledge of financial flows and payment industry standards.
