About the Role

The Software Engineering Manager at RGA is responsible for overseeing the design, development, implementation, and support of technology solutions supporting RGA's Investments and Investments Accounting Operations. This role involves leading an agile team, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and empowerment within a purpose-driven organization that focuses on life- and health-related solutions in the reinsurance industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic direction and leadership to the engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence.
  • Partner and provide input into the technology strategy supporting the investments business unit's objectives and drive continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the full development lifecycle for the agile team, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality technology solutions that meet business needs and enhance operational excellence.
  • Work closely with stakeholders, including product, business, and cross-functional teams, to understand requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
  • Partner and provide input to the architectural design of software systems, ensuring scalability, security, and performance in alignment with industry best practices.
  • Manage the engineering budget for the team, ensuring efficient resource allocation and adherence to financial goals.
  • Mentor and develop engineering talent, fostering a high-performing team capable of tackling complex challenges.
  • Stay informed of industry trends and emerging technologies, proactively identifying opportunities to leverage new tools and methodologies.
  • Collaborate with risk management teams to ensure software solutions adhere to regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 9+ years of experience in technology engineering.
  • 3+ years of experience in technology people management and team leadership.
  • Expertise in software development methodologies (Agile, Scrum, etc.) and best practices.
  • Experience leading engineering technology support for investment and/or finance business operations.
  • Highly advanced project management skills, including evaluating project objectives, analyzing feasibility, and understanding business needs.
  • Highly advanced people management skills, including leading, mentoring, and developing team members.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new methods, work under tight deadlines and stressful conditions.
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey technical and business information effectively.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and teams simultaneously.
  • Persuasion and negotiation skills when working with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of modern programming languages, Agile methodologies, and IT infrastructure.
  • Industry knowledge of insurance and/or reinsurance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 9+ years of experience in technology engineering.
  • 3+ years of team leadership experience.
