As a Software Engineering Manager, you will be a key part of a unique problem-solving team that helps make it possible. The role involves managing software teams within BAE Systems, a leading defense contractor, focusing on modernizing combat vehicle and weapon systems software, and developing software and simulation lab capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of software engineers for combat vehicle and weapon system programs.
  • Define, maintain, and improve software design and development processes, including procedures, standards, guidelines, templates, and effort estimation guidance.
  • Support business winning activities and aid program proposal efforts including work estimation review and approval.
  • Support definition of software architecture for armament, ammunition handling systems, and combat vehicle platforms.
  • Support integration and test efforts for software engineering.
  • Oversee training strategy and activities for the department.
  • Guide engineering tool development and deployment for Digital Engineering initiatives.
  • Perform comprehensive planning relative to employee capacity to ensure the right people are in place at the right time.
  • Establish and maintain the technical vitality of people, processes, and infrastructure for the software organization.
  • Develop and maintain software lab infrastructure and capabilities.
  • Provide technical expertise to programs/projects, participate in peer reviews, perform phase and design reviews, support bids and proposals, and assist in IRAD planning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Software Engineering or related field plus 10 years of hands-on software architecture, design, and development experience.
  • Mastery of software engineering, including theory, processes, languages, and tools.
  • Previous experience leading a technical team, preferably 10+ direct staff.
  • Experience with hardware and software integration.
  • Practical knowledge and experience with embedded software development and verification engineering processes.
  • Working knowledge of Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) with experience supporting an appraisal.
  • Working knowledge of cybersecurity principles and their practical application in software engineering.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working in a software and simulations lab environment.
  • Master's Degree in Engineering / Science plus 12 or more years of hands-on design/development program experience.
  • Contemporary and relevant design/development program experience.
  • Experience with DevOps software development environment.
  • Experience with ADA, Python, C-Family programming languages, and Red Hat.
  • Experience with requirements-based verification.
  • Working knowledge of Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) and Control Account Manager duties.
  • Certification as a CMMI Associate.
  • DoD-recognized cybersecurity certification.
  • Experience in Agile Software Development.
  • Experience with Atlassian Tool suite, Kubernetes, GitLab, and National Instruments tools.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Software Engineering or related field.
  • 10+ years of software architecture, design, and development experience.
