Job Description

About the Role

Like Google's own ambitions, the work of a Software Engineer goes beyond just Search. Software Engineering Managers have not only the technical expertise to take on and provide technical leadership to major projects, but also manage a team of Engineers. You not only optimize your own code but make sure Engineers are able to optimize theirs. As a Software Engineering Manager you manage your project goals, contribute to product strategy and help develop your team. Teams work all across the company, in areas such as information retrieval, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking, security, data compression, user interface design; the list goes on and is growing every day. Operating with scale and speed, our exceptional software engineers are just getting started -- and as a manager, you guide the way. With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally. In this role, you will be managing the Attribution team. You will lead a strong team through significant architectural transformations. Our organizational boundaries are dynamic and evolving, especially with strategic initiatives like Attribution Platformization, and Consolidated Business Generation etc. These efforts aim to unify and optimize our pre-monetizer architecture, providing a "one front door" goal for billing data, and ensuring a consistent and flexible approach to metadata enrichment, usage-based adjustments, and translation from resource to billing space. You will be shaping the future of Cloud Billing's core data pipelines and their integral role in Google Cloud's continued expansion. Google Cloud accelerates every organization's ability to digitally transform its business and industry. We deliver enterprise-grade solutions that leverage Google's cutting-edge technology, and tools that help developers build more sustainably. Customers in more than 200 countries and territories turn to Google Cloud as their trusted partner to enable growth and solve their most critical business problems.

  • Define and execute the technical roadmap for Cloud Billing's attribution platform, unifying and optimizing systems from batch to streaming processes.
  • Implement strategies for operational scaling across customers, products, and regions. Focus on improving automated error correction and refining tooling for usage and monetizer corrections, ensuring system robustness and data accuracy for compliance.
  • Identify, prioritize, and lead efforts to strategically address technical debt through re-architecting and migrating solutions, balancing immediate business impact with sustainable platform development.
  • Partner with upstream and downstream teams (Service Producers, Metering, Core Monetizer, Finance, FinOps, Control Plane) for seamless data flow, accurate billing, and enhanced debuggability, traceability, and correctness across the data pipeline.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role; overseeing projects, with 2 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role.
  • Experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems and data pipelines.

Nice to Have

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.
  • Experience with technologies such as BigQuery, Spanner, Flume, and in programming languages like Java, C++, or Go.
  • Experience with financial or billing systems, particularly within a cloud environment and in data processing, streaming.
  • Experience leading teams through organizational shifts and managing products and team boundaries with the understanding of data quality, data governance, and compliance requirements.
