About the Role

The Sr. Healthcare Data Scientist supports clinical, contracting, network, and business intelligence initiatives at Rush University Medical Center. The role involves analyzing healthcare data, developing reports and dashboards, and communicating complex information effectively to various audiences. The position emphasizes critical analysis skills, healthcare data understanding, and alignment with Rush's mission, vision, and values.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify, analyze, and interpret trends and patterns in complex data sets for specified projects.
  • Develop graphs and figures, reports, and presentations to summarize key results and create visualizations of complex information.
  • Create dashboards with end-user manipulation and data-drilling functionalities.
  • Prepare supporting documentation and presentation materials for reports and dashboards.
  • Provide data and analytic support for Clinical, Contracting, and executive teams.
  • Work with IT teams to interpret requirements, aid in documentation, and develop and validate reports.
  • Assist in documentation and creation of web reporting.
  • Create and maintain routine and ad hoc reports from data sources including payer claims, EMR, HIE, and external databases.
  • Assist IT with data validation during onboarding of new practice data and other projects.
  • Assist with data mapping and profiling.
  • Train end users in interpreting dashboards, tools, and results, ensuring data understanding and accessible documentation.
  • Consult with senior leadership to develop, evaluate, and edit plans for complex healthcare data analyses.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant work experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in data querying, profiling, analysis, and reporting.
  • Proficiency in SQL, including designing and writing complex queries.
  • Experience creating and maintaining dashboards, preferably in Power BI or similar platforms.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Skilled in advanced analytics, data science, and statistical algorithms.
  • Experience with statistical software such as SAS or R.
  • Experience with healthcare data sources like electronic medical records, payer claims, HIE, clinical performance data, and code sets like ICD-10, CPT.
  • Ability to communicate statistical concepts effectively.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment and prioritize workload.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with healthcare quality and efficiency analytics.
  • Experience reporting key performance metrics for physicians and hospitals.
  • Knowledge of statistics and ability to collaborate with statisticians.
  • Proficiency with data visualization software (Power BI, etc.).
  • Proficiency with statistical software (SAS, R, etc.).

  • Educational background includes a Bachelor's Degree.
