The Product Manager acts as a line-leader and works cross-functionally with other domain leaders and executive partners from other Schwab business units: Technology, Legal, Compliance, and User Experience Design teams. They implement new methods for connecting our internal and external offer and solution capabilities with our clients and internal users focused on driving outcomes through a data-based methodology. In this role, you will be part of an organization leading Schwab's digital transformation in the fast-paced digital landscape of financial services. You will have the opportunity to apply your strong critical thinking skills and aptitude to become expert in understanding the needs of clients and advisors and defining best-in-class digital experiences to address these needs. This role requires a developed understanding of the financial services and the wealth management landscape, the ability to navigate complex partnerships, build long-term relationships across the organization, and negotiate creative solutions to deliver advice at scale large scale. Efforts are broad in scope and require creativity and world-class strategic thinking, as well as strong product management and leadership skills. The successful candidate must be energetic and enthusiastic about innovation and a passion for translating business needs and user feedback into technology solutions that meet the strategic objectives of the firm. They will be self-motivated, results oriented and able to independently lead major strategic initiatives. Strong client-focus is a must.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish strategic objectives, prioritization principles, and philosophy; lead development of 12-month product road map and release plan; focus on portfolio and account performance across client and advisor experiences.
  • Oversee team development of roadmaps and lead direction on initial business case development for new initiatives.
  • Work closely with internal business partners to identify opportunities and lead the implementation of strategic initiatives to address industry trends, evolve business and economic models, pursue market growth, and improve internal processes.
  • Review, prioritize, and triage initiatives; develop resourcing strategies; synchronize work with stakeholders; make prioritization decisions; review stories and epics; oversee work of scrum teams.
  • Define processes for identifying user needs and the user journey; teach and inspire leaders to evolve product suites and incorporate user views into product vision and roadmaps.
  • Maintain strong relationships with Retail and Wealth Solutions business partners, legal, and compliance partners to translate business strategy into roadmaps.
  • Serve as a control owner for the team and drive accountability for risk management procedures.
  • Work with cross-functional partners to anticipate risks, identify and test controls, and ensure vision and strategy align with maintaining client trust through risk mitigation.
  • Lead the team by setting clear expectations, providing feedback, coaching for performance, and managing resources and talent based on initiative needs.

Requirements

  • 5+ years product management experience in financial services and/or technology.
  • A background in financial services is required.
  • Experience with investment management and/or financial planning systems and software.
  • Bachelor's degree required; post-graduate degrees are a plus.
  • Expertise in the competitive landscape of the financial services industry, especially related to performance methodologies and client utilization of performance capabilities.
  • Deep understanding of modern portfolio theory, portfolio models, and the role of portfolio management within wealth management.
  • Experience partnering with experience research teams and utilizing primary and secondary research for strategy development.
  • Expertise in project planning, managing milestones, mitigating risks, and driving dependencies.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft, Atlassian, and other product management tools.
  • Collaborative skills and ability to build relationships inside and outside the team.
  • Success in managing multiple projects with short to medium-term timelines.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to build complex relationships and generate high value.
  • Curiosity, a can-do attitude, and ability to learn quickly in a dynamic environment.
  • Self-motivated with outstanding organizational skills and ability to track multiple deliverables.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and decision-making ability in ambiguous situations.
  • Highly developed communication skills, capable of presenting complex concepts persuasively.
  • Experience with digital product management, design thinking, client journeys, and Agile development practices, including leading multiple teams as Product Owner.
