About the Role

The Strategic Marketing Director role is a new position responsible for providing Customer Back Innovation (CBI) direction driven by customer and market pain points, opportunities, and trends. The role involves collaborating closely with customers, engineering, sales, quality, and customer service to understand user pain points and market dynamics. It plays a vital role in translating market insights into compelling value propositions and supports the division's growth strategies within the Traulsen refrigeration product line, part of Illinois Tool Works Inc., a Fortune 200 global multi-industry manufacturing leader.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish strong relationships with customers to fully understand market dynamics and customer needs, capturing and translating Voice of Customer (VOC) and market trends into product commercialization opportunities.
  • Identify serial innovation opportunities that address market needs and generate sustainable, profitable growth aligned with division strategy.
  • Drive innovation pipeline by working with division innovation leadership and oversee the innovation stage gate process with engineering and product management teams.
  • Develop and execute vertical marketing strategies based on market insights, including product line strategies and value propositions for different market segments.
  • Create business cases for new target markets, product innovations, services, or customers, and develop go-to-market strategies with division commercial leadership.
  • Lead the deployment of product launches, including raising awareness and developing strategies around product portfolios.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President & General Manager to develop the three-year Long-Range Plan (LRP) and Annual Operating Plan (AOP).
  • Provide strategic leadership in sizing markets, assessing market attractiveness, and conducting segmentation and market research to identify growth opportunities.
  • Report on market segment results, including revenue, growth rates, share gain, and profitability, and explain key drivers of change.
  • Manage and develop marketing team members, fostering engagement, goal alignment, and cross-functional influence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, Engineering, or Business; MBA preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive business experience, including at least 5 years in strategic marketing, pricing, and product management.
  • Proven record of delivering business growth within a strategic marketing innovation role in a B2B environment.
  • Experience working with manufacturing, engineering, purchasing, sales, quality, and finance teams.
  • Experience leading and developing direct reports.
  • Highly effective cross-functional leadership and influencing skills, with excellent communication and presentation abilities.
  • Strong analytical skills, pricing strategy experience, and financial acumen.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30%.

Nice to Have

  • Three years of big three consulting experience.

Qualifications

  • Educational background in marketing, Engineering, or Business; MBA preferred.
