About the Role

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is seeking a Student Assistant for the Office of Recipient Rights at the Kalamazoo Psychiatric Hospital. The role involves performing clerical assignments, supporting rights advisors, and ensuring compliance with relevant mental health codes. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of clerical assignments for the Office of Recipient Rights located at State operated hospitals.
  • Input, review, and update ORR databases.
  • Support rights advisors with correspondence, filing, labeling, and mailings to ensure timely response to rights complaints.
  • Assist rights advisors with reports and other duties to ensure compliance with Chapters 7 and 7A of the Michigan Mental Health Code.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in high school, vocational or technical school, or post-secondary educational institution.
  • Provide proof of current enrollment or acceptance to an educational institution.
  • Ability to work 20 hours a week.
  • Proficiency in performing clerical tasks and supporting administrative functions.
  • Must complete a background investigation and criminal records check.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with database management or clerical support roles.
  • Familiarity with mental health codes or related compliance procedures.

  • No specific experience or amount required beyond current enrollment.
  • Proof of current enrollment or acceptance in an educational institution.
