About the Role

Serves as the Supervisory Artificial Intelligence (AI) Risk Assessment Branch Chief, providing subject matter expertise in risk assessment of AI solutions and information technology (IT) technical support and guidance for the implementation of Responsible AI enterprise-wide. The role involves organizing, directing, and managing AI risks to ensure AI technologies are developed and deployed safely, ethically, and in compliance with laws and regulations. The position includes developing systematic approaches to identifying, evaluating, and mitigating AI-related risks across the lifecycle, and overseeing the AI risk assessment program within the AI Center of Excellence (CoE), ensuring compliance with relevant policies, laws, and executive orders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serves as the Supervisory AI Risk Assessment Branch Chief, managing the AI risk assessment program.
  • Provides subject matter expertise in risk assessment of AI solutions and IT support for Responsible AI implementation.
  • Organizes, aligns, directs, and manages AI risks to ensure safe, ethical, and compliant deployment of AI technologies.
  • Develops and executes systematic approaches to identifying, evaluating, and mitigating risks associated with AI systems.
  • Directs the planning, organizing, controlling, and integrating of AI risk management and internal control programs within DLA.
  • Ensures compliance with requirements to manage risks from AI use, including laws, regulations, and policies such as OMB memoranda.
  • Defines AI risk management milestones, monitors activities, evaluates, and reports on the responsible AI risk management program.
  • Coordinates and executes activities related to AI risk assessment, legal, regulatory, and policy activities within the organization.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • One year of specialized experience related to AI risk assessment, data, models, operational environment, ethical, societal, legal, and compliance risks.
  • Experience assessing AI risks, evaluating impact, and developing mitigation plans including safeguards like explainable AI and bias detection.
  • Knowledge of AI/ML frameworks, algorithms, and tools, and their practical applications.
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams of data scientists, engineers, and policy experts.
  • Experience ensuring compliance with laws and regulations such as DoD AI Ethical Principles, Privacy Act, and Federal Acquisition Regulations.
  • Ability to develop incident response plans for AI risks such as algorithmic failure or misuse.
  • Understanding of complex interrelationships of multiple IT specialties to ensure adherence to AI responsible use risk management.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in developing and implementing AI risk mitigation strategies.
  • Knowledge of IT regulatory, legal, and policy activities related to AI.
  • Leadership experience in managing technical teams or programs.

Qualifications

  • Specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-13 level for GS-14 position, including assessing AI risks and developing mitigation plans.
  • Experience in evaluating AI/ML systems, biases, vulnerabilities, and ethical concerns.
  • Experience ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
