About the Role

The Supervisory IT Project Manager (SYSANALYSIS/PLCYPLN) serves as the Supervisory Artificial Intelligence (AI) Risk Assessment Branch Chief within the Department of Defense Defense Logistics Agency. The role involves providing subject matter expertise in risk assessment of AI solutions, supporting the implementation of Responsible AI enterprise-wide, and managing AI risks to ensure safe, ethical, and compliant development and deployment of AI technologies across multiple locations. The position includes organizing, directing, and managing AI risk programs, ensuring adherence to laws and regulations, and coordinating risk mitigation strategies within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serves as the Supervisory Artificial Intelligence (AI) Risk Assessment Branch Chief.
  • Provides subject matter expertise in risk assessment of AI solutions and IT technical support and guidance for the implementation of Responsible AI enterprise-wide.
  • Organizes, aligns, directs, and manages AI risks to ensure AI technologies are developed and deployed safely, ethically, and in compliance with laws and regulations.
  • Develops and executes systemic approaches to identifying, evaluating, and mitigating risks associated with AI systems across their lifecycle.
  • Directs the highly technical and professional risk assessment program for the AI Center of Excellence (CoE), including development of AI risk assessment and regulatory activities.
  • Plans, organizes, controls, and integrates AI risk management and internal control programs within DLA, ensuring compliance with requirements from OMB, laws, and policies.
  • Defines AI risk management milestones, monitors activities, evaluates progress, and reports on AI risk management programs.
  • Ensures that AI risk management activities adhere to executive orders, goals, and objectives related to responsible AI use.
  • Coordinates with interdisciplinary teams of data scientists, engineers, and policy experts to develop solutions for AI risks such as biases, security vulnerabilities, and ethical concerns.
  • Develops risk mitigation plans and implements safeguards such as explainable AI, bias detection tools, and robust testing processes.
  • Prepares incident response plans to address AI risks like algorithmic failure or misuse.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • One year of specialized experience related to AI risk assessment, including evaluating AI risks related to data, models, operational environment, ethics, societal, legal, and compliance issues.
  • Experience assessing AI risks, categorizing risks based on severity and likelihood, and developing mitigation strategies.
  • Knowledge of AI/ML frameworks, algorithms, and tools, and their practical applications.
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams of data scientists, engineers, and risk and policy experts.
  • Experience ensuring compliance with laws and regulations such as DoD AI Ethical Principles, Privacy Act, and Federal Acquisition Regulations.
  • Ability to develop risk mitigation plans, safeguards, and incident response strategies.
  • Proficiency in project management principles, methods, and practices related to AI risk management.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in developing and implementing AI risk assessment programs at an enterprise level.
  • Knowledge of regulatory and legal frameworks related to AI deployment.
  • Experience with managing AI risk in a government or defense environment.

Qualifications

  • GS-14 level experience or equivalent in federal, military, or private sector roles.
  • Experience assessing AI risks related to data, models, operational environment, ethics, societal, legal, and compliance issues.
