About the Role

AARP is the nation's largest nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to empowering people 50 and older to choose how they live as they age. The Senior Vice President of Business Development is a critical executive leadership role responsible for shaping, executing, and monitoring the organization's partnership and growth strategies, driving collaboration across internal teams and external stakeholders to enhance the company's competitive position and unlock new opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement overarching partnership strategies that align with the company's overall business objectives and market positioning.
  • Research and identify potential partners whose goals and products complement the company's offerings, assessing mutual benefit and value creation.
  • Cultivate, nurture, and maintain strong, long-term relationships with existing and new partners, acting as a primary point of contact.
  • Lead negotiations for partnership agreements, contracts, and terms of engagement, ensuring they favor long-term success and mutual interests.
  • Work closely with internal teams as a thought partner on partnerships and to ensure seamless integration and execution of partnership initiatives.
  • Track, analyze, and report on the performance and success of partnership initiatives using data to demonstrate ROI and identify areas for improvement.
  • Stay informed on market trends, competitor strategies, and new partnership opportunities to inform strategic planning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years leading high-performing teams in business development or strategic partnership roles.
  • Demonstrated success in driving cross-functional collaboration and delivering measurable impact.
  • Extensive experience in cultivating and managing relationships with external stakeholders.
  • Exceptional analytical skills to interpret complex data and evaluate partnership performance.
  • Strong understanding of market trends, competitive analysis, and industry best practices.
  • Outstanding negotiation, communication, and presentation abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively across internal teams and influence at all organizational levels.

Nice to Have

  • Experience working in nonprofit or membership organizations.
  • Knowledge of the health, financial security, or personal fulfillment sectors.
  • Experience with hybrid work environments and remote collaboration tools.

Qualifications

  • Educational background in Business Administration, Marketing, or related fields.
  • Proven track record of designing and executing partnership strategies that drive organizational growth.
