Temporary Social Media Specialist

About the Role

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement social media strategies that align with the agency's communication goals and public service mission.
• Create, schedule, and publish accessible content (text, images, video, graphics, captions, closed captions) across official platforms.
• Monitor public engagement, respond to comments and messages professionally and promptly, and escalate inquiries as needed.
• Track analytics, prepare performance reports, and provide data-driven recommendations to improve outreach and transparency.
• Collaborate with internal teams, partner organizations, and government entities to support public information campaigns and initiatives.
• Maintain consistency in tone, voice, and branding according to agency guidelines.
• Stay informed on trends in digital communication, accessibility standards, and best practices.
• Coordinate daily social media activities for OF+MO, supervise organic and paid content, and tailor messaging for various audiences.
• Attend events such as groundbreakings and ribbon cuttings, covering them live on social media, and take photos and videos for sharing.
• Travel to communities across the state for story development and content gathering.
• Work with marketing staff to develop graphics and edit images, and assist with marketing support for events as needed.

Requirements

• Successful completion of a bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, business, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• At least 2 years of professional experience in social media management, either with an advertising/marketing firm or for an organization.
• Experience with paid social media ads, content creation, and building custom audiences.
• Experience using social media management and analytics tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Meta Business Suite).
• Basic photography and video recording skills for social media content.
• Strong organizational and project management skills.
• Ability to plan and manage daily tasks proactively.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work well in a team environment.
• Capable of interpreting social media data and optimizing campaigns accordingly.

Nice to Have

• Knowledge of graphic design, video editing, or digital storytelling tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite).

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, business, or a related field.
• 2 years of professional social media management experience.
