About the Role

The Director of Advanced Analytics at Walmart leads all analytics projects within a small business area or category, providing consulting expertise and acting as a subject matter expert to senior leadership. The role involves developing data models, implementing complex algorithms, analyzing business issues, and collaborating across functions to drive strategic decisions. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all advanced analytics projects for a small business area or category across platforms, ensuring solutions reflect business priorities.
  • Develop and implement data models for projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams to align modeling solutions with business strategies.
  • Direct the implementation of production-ready complex algorithms, developing testing and validation methodologies, and presenting algorithms to cross-functional partners to gain buy-in.
  • Analyze business issues considering team structures and iteration models to develop innovative solutions.
  • Partner with leadership across analytics functions to define data analysis strategies based on business priorities.
  • Develop consultative solutions for projects by working with functional leadership and cross-functional partners to ensure buy-in and alignment.
  • Maintain and develop relationships with external business partners and vendors.
  • Ensure associates receive learning and development opportunities, coaching, mentoring, and feedback to enhance skills and work performance.
  • Identify emerging skills needed by analytics team members and support talent development, recruitment, and succession planning.
  • Build high-performing teams that respect diversity, foster a culture of belonging, and promote integrity and ethics.
  • Promote a customer-first approach, adopting a holistic perspective that integrates data analytics, customer insights, and business strategies.
  • Drive continuous improvement, support digital transformation, and foster innovation within the team.
  • Lead initiatives that attract and retain top talent, develop internal and external partnerships, and support community outreach.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Statistics, or related field.
  • 5 years of experience in data analytics or related field, or 7 years of experience in data analytics or related field.
  • 4 years of supervisory experience or experience leading cross-functional teams.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, algorithms, and analytics techniques.
  • Experience collaborating with senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with cluster analysis techniques, simulation, inferential statistics, neural networks, or data mining techniques.
  • Master's degrees in Business Administration, Information Systems, or Statistics.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in data analytics or 7 years if less formal education.
  • 4 years of supervisory or cross-functional team leadership experience.
