About the Role

Join Walmart|VIZIO and take your career to the next level! We are seeking an enthusiastic Senior Manager of Software Engineering specializing in embedded Linux systems to help develop and maintain Vizio's core operating structure. The Senior Manager will be responsible for directing, communicating, tracking, and mentoring the Engineering team to successfully implement visions, solving difficult problems in the company. This role reports to the Senior Director of Software Engineering and has multiple Engineering Managers as direct reports. The team is close-knit, focusing on high-impact, high-value development, with a collaborative environment based in Dallas, TX, working in-office five days a week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deliver high-quality embedded UI interfaces and applications on the Vizio OS/TV platform.
  • Collaborate with UX designers, software engineers, and other cross-functional teams.
  • Accurately estimate software tasks and adhere to schedules.
  • Provide technical leadership and conduct code reviews.
  • Participate in planning and refinement of features and design APIs/SDKs for internal and external use.

Requirements

  • Preferred 6+ years of experience in front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, TypeScript, and JavaScript (Angular, ReactJS).
  • Strong knowledge of web communications (Http, REST, WebSocket, IPC).
  • Deep understanding of streaming technologies, protocols, and adaptive bitrate streaming.
  • Proven track record in optimizing and architecting software solutions.
  • Experience with video ad insertion technologies (SSAI, DAI) and developing embedded software for TVs.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent experience.

Nice to Have

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Software Engineering, or related area.
  • 1+ years of experience in software engineering with a master's degree.
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and digital accessibility best practices.

Qualifications

  • Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Option 2: 5 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
