About the Role

The UX Research Manager at Optimum is responsible for overseeing the planning, execution, and communication of user experience research across all product initiatives. Reporting to the VP of Product Design and Research, this leadership role involves building and leading a UX research team, promoting research insights within the organization, and ensuring that user-centered design principles are embedded in product development. The role supports research for both customer-facing products and internal tools, with a focus on understanding customer journeys, motivations, and pain points, while fostering an inclusive, ethical, and accessible design environment.

Key Responsibilities

Build and lead a UX research team to deliver on multiple product scrums with researchers of different disciplines
Plan, recruit, conduct, and/or oversee all product related UX Research
Create and maintain a research roadmap informed by product development roadmaps as well as longer term strategic research and diary studies
Represent the UX Research function and evangelize process and benefits to the rest of the company
Mentor other researchers and product designers to encourage best practices and thinking like a UX researcher to improve prototypes and design solutions
Stay informed on trends and tools in UX Research to keep research capabilities modern and relevant
Participate in discovery workshops, planning, and reviews to provide insights and identify dependent research and success metrics
Coach and mentor product designers, providing feedback, establishing goals, and facilitating growth opportunities
Optimize ways of working for maximum efficiency and productivity
Help teams overcome obstacles and adapt strategies when necessary to mitigate lost productivity and morale

Requirements

Bachelor's degree or significant experience conducting UX research with meaningful business impact
7+ years of experience conducting primary research (qualitative or quantitative) end-to-end, including designing, fielding, analyzing, and reporting data
2+ years of experience directly managing, coaching, and developing mid or junior level researchers
Experience with different research methodologies and introducing them to teams
Experience building teams through hiring, growing, and retaining high-functioning researchers
Track record of translating research into business impact
Experience working with cross-functional peers and stakeholders such as product managers, data scientists, designers, engineers, policy, communications, and marketing

Nice to Have

Experience in managing or understanding internal tools used by field technicians and contact center agents
Knowledge of current trends and tools in UX Research

Qualifications

Educational background in research, human resources, or related fields (implied by the need for a Bachelor's degree or significant experience)
