About the Role

The Web Strategist II at the University of Alabama manages or supports college-level websites and digital communication strategies. The role involves overseeing content creation, editing, and publication across various digital platforms, supporting the College of Arts and Sciences' communication efforts, and working closely with faculty, staff, and students to implement digital marketing and content standards. The position includes supervising staff and acting as a web communications advisor to multiple departments and offices within the college.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversees the content in support of all the Barefield College of Arts and Sciences' communications via web and internet, including supervision of planning, creation, editing, and publication of digital content.
  • Devises and coordinates the College's digital communication efforts as part of the institution's overall marketing and information presentation strategy.
  • Develops, implements, and ensures quality control of content strategy and standards for digital content.
  • Targets online communications for state, regional, national, and international audiences as part of the College's integrated marketing communications plan.
  • Serves as supervisor for one full-time editorial staff and student employees.
  • Acts as the web communications manager/advisor to the 26 academic departments, student services, service organizations, and the Dean's Office of the College of Arts and Sciences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of web content management experience; OR master's degree and some web content management experience.
  • Ability to articulate a long-term vision and operate on a strategic level.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, collaboration, and team-building abilities.
  • Experience or familiarity with web software such as WordPress and digital content creation software like Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Demonstrated management, customer service, problem-solving, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to interact comfortably with faculty, staff, and higher education personnel.

Nice to Have

  • Master's degree in English, journalism, or creative writing.
  • Editorial experience.
  • Five (5) years of experience with writing digital content.
  • Experience supervising junior staff or student workers.
  • Experience working with digital media such as video, signage/advertising, and podcasting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or master's degree as specified in requirements.
  • Two (2) years of web content management experience or some experience with a master's degree.
