The internship offers an opportunity to support actuarial analyses, data modeling, and healthcare economics projects, contributing to the company's mission of improving community health.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and perform actuarial analyses for various lines of business, including medical expense analyses, health insurance market research, product pricing, and actuarial modeling.
  • Present statistical information to support actuarial, underwriting, and business areas regarding plan pricing, product development, and marketing planning.
  • Administer finalized policies, monitor results, and provide feedback as needed.
  • Collect and compile statistical data for additional analysis.
  • Estimate the probability and cost of sickness, treatment, and medical services.
  • Design, test, and administer policies to minimize risk and maximize profitability; develop charts and exhibits to explain proposals and calculations.
  • Identify trends and patterns in complex data sets.
  • Program and develop pricing and statistical models, spreadsheets, and databases using analytical software.
  • Explain complex ideas and technical data to different audiences.
  • Identify company risks and develop plans and recommendations to manage them, presenting findings to actuarial management.
  • Develop, maintain, and analyze projection models.
  • Reconcile and analyze actuarial inputs and outputs.
  • Collaborate with key leaders to identify and meet information needs.
  • Establish and document actuarial, underwriting, or healthcare economics procedures for internal use.
  • Perform additional duties as directed.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, computer science, other physical sciences, or related finance/business degree.
  • 0 - 1+ years of relevant, professional work experience and/or education.
  • Understanding of actuarial principles and methodologies with strong mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to deliver complex information to a diverse audience.
  • Capable with Excel, data extraction, simulations, automation.
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Nice to Have

  • Completion of / candidate working towards completion of actuarial exam(s).
  • Exposure to SQL, SAS, Python or similar.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree in relevant fields
  • 0 - 1+ years of experience
  • Understanding of actuarial principles
