About the Role

The Academic Writer/Editor manages the organization and execution of content, timelines, and resources for faculty promotions in Medical Oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. They work closely with faculty, administrators, and institutional leaders to ensure that CVs and promotion documents meet high standards, supporting faculty appointments and enhancing the institution's reputation. The role involves handling appointments for Instructor, Assistant Professor, and Associate Professor positions, requiring exceptional skills in scientific writing, editing, and document management. Located in Boston with a fully remote work option, the position emphasizes supporting faculty promotion processes within a leading cancer research and treatment organization committed to diversity and inclusion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the primary point of contact between faculty members and the Department of Medicine, ensuring CVs, annotated bibliographies, and candidate summaries meet requirements for faculty promotions.
  • Write, format, and edit faculty CVs and promotion documents according to specific style guidelines, including Harvard Medical School CV format.
  • Research and verify CV entries such as grants and presentations using resources like NIH/NCI sites and PubMed, collaborating with faculty to identify relevant content.
  • Summarize and simplify complex clinical and research data to communicate scientific and medical information clearly and accessibly.
  • Ensure all documents meet or exceed standards set by the Department of Medicine and Medical Oncology, maintaining high-quality outputs.
  • Develop strategies to streamline the editorial process, including creating templates and guidelines, and train faculty and staff to improve efficiency.
  • Stay updated with revisions to CV templates and promotion policies, and draft sections of nominating letters and organize meetings with faculty to refine CVs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, English, or life sciences.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in writing or editorial work, preferably in an academic setting.
  • Master's degree in life sciences, biology, medical science, or a related medical field is preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical and scientific terminology supported by relevant courses or certifications.
  • Understanding of grants and clinical trials to accurately represent research activities.
  • Strong writing, proofreading, and communication skills to produce clear and error-free documents.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and maintain professionalism.
  • Technical proficiency with editorial tools and software such as Microsoft Office, PubMed, and CV generators.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills for effective interaction with faculty and staff.
  • Knowledge of academic promotion processes and scientific communication principles.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills to manage multiple projects.

  • Experience in the healthcare or pharmaceutical industry.
  • Experience with grants management platforms.

Qualifications
