About the Role

The Alumni Community Intern (Part-Time) at WETA and NewsHour Productions is a role focused on supporting and growing the national alumni network for Student Reporting Labs (SRL). This position is ideal for current college students or recent graduates passionate about youth media, journalism, and community-building. The intern will help strengthen relationships with alumni, develop engagement strategies, and highlight alumni stories, contributing to community engagement and media education initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Help coordinate virtual and in-person alumni events such as career events and social meetups.
  • Support monthly alumni planning committee meetings.
  • Help kick off and support the online alumni community (e.g., Discord).
  • Explore new ideas like local meetups or college/career resource guides.
  • Brainstorm creative ways to collect alumni testimonials and feedback.
  • Provide other administrative and community support as assigned.

Requirements

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft newsletter features, blog posts, and professional emails.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities; able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines with attention to detail.
  • Creative thinker with an interest in community-building, event planning, or youth engagement.
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a remote/hybrid team setting.
  • Tech savvy and open to using platforms like Google Drive, Zoom, Slack, Discord, Airtable, and Canva.
  • Interest in storytelling, mentorship, and media/journalism career development.
  • Candidates must be active college students, preferably rising juniors or seniors.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Discord or other online communities.
  • Experience with social media platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience in community building.

Qualifications

  • Preferred majors include Communications, Arts, Journalism & Media, or Community Building.
