About the Role

The Center for Educational Performance and Information (CEPI), housed within the State Budget Office, is responsible for coordinating the management, collection, and reporting of all education data, including the electronic exchange of student records between preschool, K-12, and postsecondary education. The Analytics Manager position in the PK-12 Data Unit within the Office of Analytics and Reporting involves analyzing data extracts, evaluating data reliability, loading data into the Michigan Statewide Longitudinal Data System (MSLDS), designing and delivering data content, advising stakeholders, and making recommendations to improve data validity and accuracy. The role includes directing and overseeing professional staff, coordinating activities, and working closely with other units to promote a positive team environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a first-line manager for analytics methods applied to Michigan educational data collected and utilized in CEPI's data systems.
  • Direct and supervise the work of unit analysts, including planning, scheduling, and tracking assignments in alignment with other CEPI units.
  • Maintain a staff of trained analysts by coordinating hiring, training, and evaluation of new resources.
  • Provide direction and guidance to resources to ensure timely, accurate information is published through various CEPI systems.
  • Oversee the creation of analytics processes that are designed, documented, implemented, and maintained, including performance monitoring and feedback functions.
  • Communicate with CEPI teams to ensure quality standards are met during data transitions.
  • Serve as a champion for team projects, promoting critical thinking and serving as a positive role model.

Requirements

  • Possession of a bachelor's degree in any major.
  • Four years of professional experience, including two years at the experienced (P11) level or one year at the advanced (12) level.
  • Experience in accounting, auditing, budgeting, finance, systems data, and research.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, think critically, build teams, and liaise effectively.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with data analysis and reporting in educational or government settings.
  • Leadership or management experience supervising professional staff.

Qualifications

  • Educational background: Bachelor's degree in any major.
  • Professional experience: Four years including at least two at the experienced level or one at the advanced level.
