About the Role

The Assistant Director, Digital Strategy at the University of Pittsburgh is responsible for directing marketing plans, materials, and programs to promote various activities, events, services, and products. The role involves conducting marketing studies, developing marketing campaigns, and overseeing data extrapolation to maximize marketing effectiveness. The position requires a creative, collaborative, and initiative-taking strategist with a focus on digital and omni-channel execution, aligning audience strategies with broader business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Understand key departmental and institutional goals and translate them into measurement strategies using Marcomm KPIs.
  • Conduct audience, market, and competitive research to deliver actionable strategic insights.
  • Lead and participate in design and experiential brainstorming sessions to develop audience segmentation, journey mapping, content mapping, campaign, and technology strategies.
  • Shape and integrate Marcomm strategies, including channel opportunities, KPIs/goals, experience/content strategy, and measurement/reporting frameworks.
  • Translate brand platform(s) into creative frameworks for Marcomm efforts across websites, social media, email, and other channels.
  • Collaborate with external partners and internal stakeholders to maintain brand consistency across digital mediums.
  • Develop UX, UI, content, and taxonomy strategies across experiential channels, focusing on measuring impact and defining KPIs.
  • Conduct user testing and implement A/B testing strategies to inform and optimize Marcomm efforts.
  • Manage digital marketing efforts including Google Ads, SEO, social media, and analytics to optimize goal and audience conversions.
  • Shape workflow and operational needs within the MarComm team and assist in producing digital content when needed.

Requirements

  • Prior experience helping to define and translate brand, content, and creative strategies/frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of the audience lifecycle from awareness to retention.
  • Research skills with the ability to translate findings into strategic recommendations.
  • Experience working with digital design systems and UX/prototyping tools such as Figma and Adobe XD.
  • Knowledge of Google suite tools including Ads, Business, Tag Manager, Search Console, Analytics.
  • Experience with A/B testing platforms such as Optimizely, VWO, Google Ads, Campaign Monitor.
  • Knowledge of SEO tools like Moz, Yoast, Screaming Frog.
  • Understanding of ADA best practices and experience with accessibility tools such as WAVE, Stark, JAWS.
  • Project management skills with experience using MS Project, Monday, Excel.
  • Experience implementing and managing CMS systems such as WordPress and Drupal.
  • Knowledge of hosting platforms, server maintenance, DNS, and SSL management.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Basic coding skills in HTML/CSS, PHP, MySQL, Javascript are a plus.
  • Video and creative production skills are a plus.
