About the Role

The Assistant Director of Marketing at Northwestern University will serve an integral role in the overall marketing and promotion of Northwestern Athletics, focusing on elevating the fan experience and creating new revenue opportunities for select sport programs, especially Olympic team sports. The role involves creative scripting, programming, and executing new inventory for prospective partners, as well as supporting marketing efforts for men's basketball and football home games. Reporting to the Director of Marketing, this position supports brand awareness, ticket sales, and revenue initiatives through collaboration with the Athletic Department and external contacts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the contact from the Marketing department for select cross-functional teams overseeing various sports programs.
  • Facilitate the creation and implementation of comprehensive marketing, ticket sales, social media, and public relations plans for assigned sports programs, coordinating calendars and timelines with external units.
  • Act as the gameday event director and producer for assigned sports, including writing game scripts, directing in-game fan experience elements, ensuring sponsorship fulfillment, and overseeing gameday staff.
  • Serve as a liaison between the sports program and community relations to enhance the team's community involvement.
  • Assist in executing gameday events for home football and men's basketball games, managing interns, planning operations, and activating ticket sales initiatives.
  • Support special programs and community relations events for the athletic department.
  • Act as the marketing department's liaison with campus and community constituents in Evanston and Chicago.
  • Adhere to all Department and University policies, NCAA, Big Ten Conference, and CSC rules and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of a 4-year college degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two or more years of experience in advertising, marketing, graphic design, content creation, or public relations.
  • Previous experience working with collegiate or professional athletics organizations.
  • Proven success in marketing, graphic and web design, content creation, and public relations.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Professional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to establish engaging relationships with a wide variety of constituents.

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of NCAA, CSC, Big Ten Conference, and Northwestern University rules and regulations.
  • Experience with game production software such as ShoFlo, Click Effects, Sound Director.
  • Experience with paid digital and email marketing systems like Eloqua.
  • Experience directing or producing complete runs of show at sporting events.

Qualifications

  • Educational background including a bachelor's degree or higher.
  • Experience in marketing or related fields, especially within athletics.
