About the Role

Carnegie Mellon University is seeking an Associate Director, Annual Giving and Digital Engagement within University Advancement. The role involves leveraging digital platforms and tools to engage, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors and constituents through personalized digital outreach. The position supports the university's fundraising efforts by building and strengthening relationships with a diverse portfolio of donors, primarily through digital communications, to increase engagement and philanthropic support. The role reports to the Executive Director, Annual Giving, and collaborates with various teams to develop digital strategies and campaigns, analyze engagement data, and foster long-term philanthropic relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing a portfolio of up to 1,000 constituents through personalized, one-to-one digital outreach via email, text, phone, video, and social media, meeting daily, monthly, and quarterly goals including contacts made, virtual meetings, solicitations, dollars raised, and handoffs to other teams.
  • Working closely with the digital marketing team to develop and implement innovative digital strategies and mixed digital media campaigns to engage potential donors, including email campaigns, social media outreach, virtual events, and personalized digital communications.
  • Utilizing Carnegie Mellon's Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system (Salesforce) and supporting systems to manage information, track interactions, and update records.
  • Analyzing digital engagement data and utilizing social media listening tools to inform strategy and improve outreach efforts.
  • Partnering with diverse Carnegie Mellon teams to identify and qualify new constituents through digital research and data analysis, maintaining regular contact with donors to foster long-term relationships.
  • Crafting and reviewing compelling digital fundraising appeals and campaigns tailored to specific constituencies in collaboration with Advancement Communications and Marketing.
  • Partnering with leadership to tailor personalized digital outreach to constituents.
  • Using digital tools to track and report on engagement and fundraising outcomes, ensuring timely and personalized donor stewardship, gift acknowledgment, and updates on the impact of contributions.
  • Keeping current on university advancement engagement, philanthropic opportunities, faculty, research, and student initiatives to inform conversations and solicitations.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 3-5 years of experience, preferably within a university or non-profit setting.
  • Experience with digital fundraising campaigns, including email marketing, social media outreach, Google Analytics, or online giving platforms.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Previous CRM experience preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with constituents, donors, and colleagues in written, oral, and personal communication.
  • Ability to interact effectively within the University Advancement division and with external partners.
  • Ability to coach and mentor direct reports.
  • Highly organized with the ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
  • Ability to handle confidential donor information and make sound decisions regarding its use.
  • Willingness to work occasional night/weekend meetings to align with donor availability.

Nice to Have

  • Previous use of Google Analytics.
  • One year of managerial experience.
  • Knowledge of best practices in fundraising, including concepts like acquisition, retention, reacquisition, and upgrade.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience, preferably in a university or non-profit setting.
  • Experience with digital fundraising campaigns and related tools.
