About the Role

The Associate Director, Email Product Owner is part of the Channel Platforms & Content Optimization team at AbbVie. The role involves onboarding, training, and leading a team of email specialists responsible for creating and managing emails for non-personal promotion and communications with healthcare professionals, consumers, and patients. The position supports campaign planning, process improvement, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure high-quality, timely email execution in alignment with brand objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Onboard, train, and lead a team of email specialists responsible for iterative email creation, management, and oversight of brand emails.
  • Confirm requirements with brand marketing, create emails, route through the material review process for approval, and communicate project status to stakeholders.
  • Support campaign planning and delivery with CRM team members to ensure flawless execution of email content.
  • Manage, coach, and develop the team to understand therapeutic areas/brands and work effectively across departments and agencies.
  • Proactively review email performance, identify optimization opportunities, and communicate improvements to the marketing team.
  • Develop and maintain project documents, timelines, proofing checklists, and status reports, and identify risks with mitigation plans.
  • Partner with cross-functional and agency teams to create processes for requirements capture, approvals, and data verification.
  • Seek process standardization, automation, and improvements to increase speed, quality, and efficiency.
  • Prioritize workload across team members, support multiple brands, and adapt to changing business needs.
  • Ensure high-quality, on-time, error-free email implementation, testing, and QA within the email platform.
  • Oversee issue management from identification to resolution, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
  • Create and maintain the email product playbook, promoting best practices and reducing timelines.
  • Collaborate with internal and external leaders to define, execute, and optimize email creation processes.
  • Stay informed on industry best practices and new technology, providing thought leadership and applying advancements to AbbVie.
  • Manage migration to email platforms, support capability improvements, and oversee long-term support models.
  • Drive resource management and capacity planning to support workload and volume demands.
  • Conduct quarterly business reviews and audits with leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or Marketing or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in Email Marketing, including creating, building, and executing emails.
  • Experience building and leading high-performing teams of email specialists (3+ years).
  • Ability to think strategically and execute to exceed stakeholder expectations.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong client service and project management skills, with effective communication with both business and technical teams.
  • Expertise in email with HTML/CSS experience and familiarity with email rendering tools (e.g., Litmus).
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience in Pharma is preferred but not required.

  • Digital marketing or interactive agency experience.

Qualifications

  • Educational background in Business or Marketing or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive experience in email marketing and team leadership.
