About the Role

The Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Digital Strategy and Marketing Technology at Temple University is a critical member of the leadership team within the Strategic Marketing and Communications Division. This role involves leading and shaping the university's digital footprint, ensuring a seamless, user-centric, and innovative experience for stakeholders. The AVP oversees teams responsible for web content strategy, digital project management, web development, and marketing technology, collaborating closely with Information Technology Services (ITS) to advance strategic goals through data-driven, technology-enabled marketing and communications. The position requires a flexible, solutions-oriented approach in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, managing complex projects and fostering relationships across campus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for the Digital Strategy and Marketing Technology teams, ensuring alignment with the university's mission, goals, and brand.
  • Develop and implement a forward-thinking, innovative digital strategy that enhances the university's global reputation and stakeholder engagement.
  • Champion the adoption and effective use of emerging technologies in digital marketing and communications.
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of digital strategists, project managers, web developers, and marketing technologists.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture, encouraging professional growth and excellence.
  • Serve as a cosponsor of the Central Web Collaboration Center, overseeing governance of the university's web presence, Drupal framework, and broader digital ecosystem.
  • Collaborate with ITS and campus partners to establish and enforce standards, best practices, and accessibility compliance for digital properties.
  • Lead initiatives to optimize the university's web infrastructure, ensuring scalability, security, and user-focused design.
  • Oversee the selection, implementation, and management of enterprise marketing technologies, including marketing automation platforms, CRM tools, and analytics systems.
  • Develop and execute strategies to leverage data and technology to drive personalized and impactful marketing efforts.
  • Foster collaboration across university units to ensure consistent and effective use of marketing technologies.
  • Act as a primary liaison between Strategic Marketing and Communications and ITS, fostering strong cross-functional partnerships.
  • Work closely with academic and administrative units to ensure digital strategies meet diverse needs.
  • Evaluate and optimize deliverables to improve return on investment in real-time and long-term.
  • Stay abreast of the latest technologies and best practices in digital marketing and web strategy.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in computer science or a related field.
  • At least 8 years of progressive leadership experience in digital/web strategy, marketing technology, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in digital strategy, web governance, and marketing technology platforms such as Drupal and Salesforce.
  • Strong decision-making, resource management, and diplomacy skills.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards, data privacy regulations, and digital best practices.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Proven leadership and collaboration skills to unify teams across functions.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy.
  • Superior organizational and time management skills.
  • Solutions-oriented attitude with the ability to work independently and within a continuous improvement environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, with diplomacy and collegiality.
  • Attention to detail and ability to utilize data and insights for decision-making.

  • Experience in monitoring, mentoring, and managing staff performance.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in a complex, decentralized organization.
  • Professional experience in higher education.
  • Familiarity with media planning/buying, SEM/SEO strategies, CRM systems, Marketing Automation technology (e.g., Salesforce), and Google Analytics.
  • Progressive leadership roles in marketing, brand management, advertising, or related fields.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in computer science or a related field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of leadership experience in relevant fields.
