About the Role

Westchester, a Chubb Company, is one of the largest and most diverse excess and surplus lines commercial property and casualty insurance underwriters in the United States. Focused on the wholesale distribution channel, Westchester provides innovative specialty products for property, specialty casualty, environmental, financial lines, inland marine, product recall, small business (Digital binding and Middle Market), and programs. The position will be based within the defined geography, preferably in close proximity to a Westchester Regional Underwriting Office, and reports to the Regional Business Development Manager for the Northeast. The role involves executing business development strategies within the territory, achieving production and product-mix plans, coaching peers, and contributing expertise in distribution and broker management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Executes sales strategies and tactical priorities to achieve annual objectives for market share, new appointments, submission growth, new premium growth, hit ratios, and product mix in the defined territory.
  • May supervise, coach, and mentor peers on best practices and assist with development of sales plans and expected behaviors.
  • Influences and executes broker management and compensation strategies, developing and managing local relationships.
  • Develops an annual production plan consistent with regional and national Westchester plans with minimal RBDM assistance.
  • Maintains relationships and works closely with Westchester underwriting staff to promote products and capabilities.
  • Ensures underwriters travel to meet brokers in the territory and coaches them on conducting effective meetings.
  • Maintains solid product and appetite knowledge across all Westchester business units and develops broader understanding of all Chubb products and capabilities.
  • Thoroughly competent on all Westchester production and reporting systems.
  • Identifies competitive threats and vulnerabilities, working with RBDM to address them.
  • Shares feedback on market conditions, competitors, and positioning in the territory.
  • Identifies and onboards new brokers through effective pipelining, pre-qualification, and territory analysis/management with minimal RBDM support.

Requirements

  • Experience in executing sales strategies and achieving business development goals within a defined territory.
  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and underwriters.
  • Knowledge of insurance products, market conditions, and competitive landscape.
  • Competence in using production and reporting systems related to insurance sales.
  • Strong communication and coaching skills to mentor peers and influence broker management strategies.
  • Ability to analyze territory data and develop effective sales and production plans.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in excess and surplus lines commercial property and casualty insurance.
  • Previous supervisory or mentoring experience in a sales or business development role.
  • Familiarity with Westchester or Chubb products and internal systems.
