About the Role

Clifford Chance is seeking a full-time Business Development Specialist to support the Houston office's BD efforts. The role involves working closely with the Houston Business Development Manager, Partners, and the regional team to support activities such as pitches, directory submissions, industry research, events, and profile-raising initiatives. The position supports practice areas including Capital Markets, Commercial Transactions & Outsourcing, Corporate/M&A, Projects, and Tax, with a focus on the energy sector. The role involves collaboration across the Americas and global network to support both domestic and international initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation of capability statements, tailored client proposals, and RFPs.
  • Maintain business development materials, including practice group descriptions and lawyer biographies.
  • Collaborate with the Events Team to plan and facilitate client events, sponsorships, and seminars.
  • Engage with associates to ensure they contribute to the experience database and maintain deal information for league tables, directory submissions, pitches, and external/internal communication activities.
  • Manage mailing lists within the CRM database for targeted client and prospect mailings.
  • Work with the Business Development Manager and global directories team to manage the annual legal directory submission process.
  • Conduct research on clients, competitors, and industry sectors to prepare partners for meetings and inform business/client plans.
  • Profile practices and deals internally and externally in coordination with the Communications Team.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of relevant work experience in a law firm or professional services firm, with prior business development/marketing experience.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of the US energy market highly beneficial.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage competing needs.
  • Proactive and positive approach with attention to detail.
  • Analytical and research skills.
  • Understanding of clients' commercial objectives and marketplace.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with Interaction or CRM systems preferred.
  • Ability to work outside core business hours as needed.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (preferred).
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in law firm or professional services environment.
