About the Role

The College of Forestry at Oregon State University seeks a student worker to serve as a part-time writer and content creator to support its marketing and communications team. This role involves producing engaging digital content, storytelling, and supporting the college's online presence. The position offers hands-on experience in marketing and communications, with a focus on creating content about college activities, profiles, research, and initiatives. The role is ideal for a creative, self-motivated individual interested in storytelling and digital media, regardless of forestry background.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize and produce interesting and fun content for the College of Forestry plus supplementary content for social media channels
  • Increase web traffic and awareness among key audiences
  • Utilize photography and videography skills for creating social media content
  • Identify ways to improve the college's digital channels and repurpose content
  • Add to OSU's brand, tone, voice, and style as well as best practices
  • Consult with the team to assess story needs, audiences, and objectives

Requirements

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard (e.g., 6 credit hours per term for undergraduates, 12 for international students, etc.)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong smartphone photography/videography skills
  • Confidence to reach out directly to students, faculty, alumni for interviews, videos, and photos
  • Ability to take direction and complete assignments on deadline

Nice to Have

  • Interest in public relations, communication or related fields
  • Driver's license

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a high school, community college, or university with the required credit hours
  • Ability to produce engaging written content
  • Proficiency in smartphone photography and videography
