About the Role

Vertex is seeking a talented team member to join our Global Commercial Strategy team. The Competitive Intelligence Director will be responsible for executing the competitive intelligence process through collection and generation of strategic analysis and insights across specific disease areas. This position will focus on hematology and neurological diseases. The Director will work under the general direction of the Competitive Intelligence team leadership and will be part of a team that provides insights to help reduce uncertainties and build optimal business decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for leading the Competitive Intelligence process ethically and compliantly from planning, collection, and analysis for specific disease areas(s).
  • Generate strategic and actionable insights aligned with business objectives to cross functional disease teams, Executive Committee, and other leadership.
  • Provide timely, accurate insights and early warnings using multiple sources, telling the competitive story, and identifying the potential impact on the business.
  • Effectively partner cross functionally and work collaboratively for short-and longer-term planning.
  • Lead congress CI efforts from planning through post-event.
  • Develop high impact, consistently updated executive communications, including presentations for Senior Leaders.
  • Manage external vendors providing leadership and direction to ensure project success while remaining on-time and on-budget.

Requirements

  • Understanding of CI ethics SCIP guidelines with a compliance mindset and demonstrated integrity on the job.
  • Strong grasp of the pharmaceutical industry and scientific concepts.
  • Ability to understand and analyze business, scientific and medical data in a timely manner.
  • Strong, concise communication skills both written and verbal to diverse audiences including leadership and across multiple business functions.
  • Strong collaboration skills that build mutual trust, respect and cooperation among team members.
  • Proven experience and confidence working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated; acts independently and prioritizes appropriately; embraces unexpected changes or challenges.
  • Proven project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities; adapts to new projects rapidly and effectively; is a strategic thinker with a proven track record of driving for implementation.
  • Bachelor's degree, advanced degree preferred or equivalent experience.
  • Typically, 8+ years of relevant experience in competitive intelligence or similar insight generation role with experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry.
  • Hematology, Neurology disease area experience preferred.

  • Bachelor's degree, advanced degree preferred or equivalent experience.
  • Typically, 8+ years of relevant experience in competitive intelligence or similar insight generation role.
