About the Role

This position is a part-time Content Creator Marketing Specialist for the College of Science at Oregon State University. The role involves ideating, creating, and sharing trending science content on social media platforms like TikTok and Instagram to engage the university community and prospective students. It offers an opportunity to develop skills in science communication, social media marketing, and content creation while contributing to the visibility and impact of the College of Science.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create original Team Science content (videos, reels, photo carousels, etc.) on TikTok and other social media platforms, highlighting the student experience and science topics.
  • Work with the Assistant Director of Marketing and other interns to strategize and produce social media content.
  • Show up with big ideas and be ready to execute content plans.
  • Review College and University social media to stay current on trends, events, and ideas.
  • Curate content from other OSU accounts and science-focused sources.
  • Moderate social media accounts by responding to comments and engaging with the online community.
  • Organize and present content plans, calendars, analytics, and areas for improvement.
  • Moderate user-generated content in line with university policies and brand guidelines.
  • Analyze social media data and insights to improve engagement and content effectiveness.
  • Attend College of Science events to gather content.
  • Collaborate with photographers, videographers, and design teams to maintain visual branding and tell impactful science stories.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study.
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible.
  • High School student: Regularly enrolled in high school or participating in a home-schooling program.
  • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term.
  • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term.
  • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term.
  • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
  • Self-motivation in project management and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to learn and use software such as Microsoft Office and other design or project management tools.
  • Ability to communicate concerns or conflicts to supervisors in a timely manner.

  • Interest in learning about the College of Science and representing it to the public and OSU community.
  • Demonstrated positive and proactive attitude.
  • Ability to lift/carry 20 lbs.
  • Demonstrated commitment to enhancing equity, diversity, and social justice.
  • Interest in science, though not required to be a STEM major.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a high school, community college, or university with the required credit hours per term.
  • Ability to work up to approximately 24 hours per week.
  • Proficiency in using social media platforms, video editing, and content creation tools.
