Job Description

About the Role

We are seeking to hire a summer intern for the Illinois Department of Agriculture's Communication Office. This internship provides an opportunity for a student interested in gaining experience in communications, working behind the scenes on the DuQuoin State Fair, and learning how media coverage and public relations are managed for a large state event. The role involves assisting staff with creating press releases, social media posts, taking photos, and producing videos, all within a busy, public-facing agency environment. The internship runs from August 4th to September 5th, 2025, and offers valuable learning opportunities in the field of communications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participates in an agency-sponsored program for a period of not to exceed four (4) years.
  • Assists professional staff in creating social media posts for Illinois Department of Agriculture.
  • Assists in taking photos and producing videos for the Illinois Department of Agriculture.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonable within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Requirements

  • Knowledge, skills, and mental development equivalent to the completion of high school.
  • Active enrollment at a college.

Nice to Have

  • Basic proficiency in computer programs such as Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Experience creating static and dynamic social media content and managing various social media platforms.
  • Experience maintaining working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Must pass a background check.
