About the Role

We are seeking to hire a summer intern for the Illinois Department of Agriculture's Communication Office - Du Quoin State Fair. This internship provides an opportunity for a student interested in communications to gain hands-on experience by assisting staff in creating press releases, social media posts, taking photos, and producing videos. The role involves working behind the scenes on the DuQuoin State Fair, understanding media coverage, handling public relations demands, and promoting the event online. It is ideal for a communications major aiming to enter the public or media relations field after college.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participates in an agency-sponsored program for a period of not to exceed four (4) years.
  • Assists professional staff in creating social media posts for the Illinois Department of Agriculture.
  • Assists in taking photos and producing videos for the Illinois Department of Agriculture.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonable within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Requirements

  • Knowledge, skills, and mental development equivalent to the completion of high school.
  • Active enrollment at a college.

Nice to Have

  • Basic proficiency in computer programs such as Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Experience creating static and dynamic social media content and managing various social media platforms.
  • Experience maintaining working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Must pass a background check.
