About the Role

The Customer Project Trainee is a training position at Arizona Public Service designed to prepare individuals to become a Customer Project Associate. The role involves assisting in the coordination and oversight of service-level and routine, less complex customer projects, helping to coordinate activities among various functional areas to meet critical objectives under pressing timelines. The position supports developing and monitoring comprehensive work plans, including schedule milestones, expenditures, and cash flow models, within a company committed to creating a sustainable energy future for Arizona.

Key Responsibilities

  • Successfully complete the Customer Project Representative Training Program including all on-the-job training requirements.
  • Perform as a project trainee for routine design projects, including service level and larger scale requests such as upgrades, relocations, conversions, maintenance, street lights, dusk to dawn lights, and new services.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate all facets of the project from initiation through construction, energization, and close-out.
  • Learn and assist in the planning, scheduling, and coordinating all facets of the project from initiation through construction, energization, and close-out.
  • Identify the best source of APS power, the most cost-effective design, and the usability of existing equipment based on load analysis and voltage drop calculations.
  • Effectively interface with customers, developers, and internal departments to assess needs, determine project scope, obtain plans/maps/drawings, and make design and installation decisions.
  • Determine the need to obtain easements and permits, process through APS right of way, and design the project accordingly.
  • Prepare work authorizations and job estimates, determine and communicate customer charges, and manage scheduling to ensure payment collection prior to job release.
  • Conduct inspections during installation to ensure compliance with safety and APS requirements, and instruct customers/contractors for hassle-free service.
  • Update project management and customer information databases and close out projects upon completion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or related field.
  • OR Associate Degree in a related discipline with one year of related experience in design, construction project management, or customer service.
  • OR High School Diploma with two years of related experience in design, construction project management, or customer service.
  • Previous experience working in a customer-facing role.
  • CPM Battery Aptitude Test is required.
  • A valid Arizona Driver's License is required.
  • Experience with customer interface and ability to adapt/respond to stakeholders.
  • Negotiation skills and problem solving abilities.
  • Business, planning, and project management skills.
  • Computer skills: Windows, Word, Excel, CC&B, GIS, Maximo, Primavera.
  • Proficiency in data management and project scheduling programs.
  • Basic electricity knowledge and drafting/CAD experience.
  • Successful completion of college Algebra.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written skills.
  • May require emergency response support for unusual or emergency situations.
