About the Role

The main purpose of a data analyst is to find meaning in data so that the derived knowledge can be used to make informed decisions and assist the organization in making better business decisions. This role involves supporting data exploration, requirements gathering, data analysis, and delivering insights to inform business strategies within CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield.

Key Responsibilities

Engages in data exploration using various programming languages, requiring knowledge of multiple database structures.
Supports stakeholders in gathering business and technical requirements to deliver data-driven solutions.
Produces technical documentation that is consistent with professional standards.
Researches and analyzes data flow across data ecosystems including operational and analytical data platforms.
Serves as a knowledgeable resource supporting data questions and issues from stakeholders.
Collects, analyzes, and interprets data to glean insights and suggest business-appropriate recommendations.
Participates in the design, development, validation, and delivery of data to provide insight into business decisions.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Business or related field, or an additional 4 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.
3 years of data analysis or relevant work experience.
Proficient in SQL (Snowflake, SQL Server, or equivalent).
Experience with Microsoft Power BI and Power BI Report Builder.
Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (functions, pivot tables, Power Query).
Basic experience with Python for data exploration and transformation.
Understanding of data visualization best practices and storytelling with data.
Strong communication and data documentation skills.
Knowledge of analytical tools, languages, applications, and platforms.
Quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to learn quickly, meet deadlines, and handle multiple demands.

Nice to Have

Experience with Big Data/NoSQL Platforms and delivering production projects at scale.
Experience in the healthcare industry.
Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric (e.g., dataflows, OneLake).
Exposure to analytical modeling methods (trend, cohort, segmentation).

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, Business, or related field.
Or in lieu of a degree, an additional 4 years of relevant work experience.
