Job Description

About the Role

UF Information Technology (UFIT) is seeking an entry-level Data Engineer I to join the Data Platform and Analytics - Data Engineering unit. UFIT enables teaching, learning, research, and service on campus and across the region with state-of-the-art enterprise IT systems, including SEC and SUS universities, and offers opportunities such as teaching using HiPerGator. The role involves engaging in diverse projects related to data pipelines, data structures, dataset integration, and metadata management, with a focus on understanding business requirements and delivering high-quality technical solutions under direct supervision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement data pipelines, optimize data structures, and integrate datasets.
  • Develop scalable compute workloads and improve metadata management.
  • Troubleshoot and performance tune existing data pipelines and integrations.
  • Review processes that audit data synchronization for data corrections.
  • Assist in the development, maintenance, and support of the data hub and data marts, including near real-time and batched data marts, star schema design, and operational reporting data marts.
  • Debug and modify program code, manage deadlines, and ensure quality control practices are followed.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree; or a high school diploma or equivalent and two years of relevant experience.
  • Understanding of data pipeline and data integration methodologies.
  • Understanding of database functionality.
  • Understanding of object-based storage.
  • Ability to recognize, anticipate, and resolve organizational, operational, or process problems.
  • Ability to grasp new concepts, acquire new ways of seeing things, and revise ways of thinking and behaving.
