About the Role

The Data Governance Analyst at Ameris Bank is responsible for supporting the Enterprise Data Governance Officer in administering sound data stewardship across the organization. The role involves working with Data Stewards to ensure compliance with regulatory and enterprise data practices, implementing data governance and retention policies, and facilitating communication between technical teams and business stakeholders. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of data governance and retention policies.
  • Build and maintain data governance roadmaps aligned with organizational goals.
  • Define and track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) to measure the effectiveness of governance initiatives, with guidance from the EDGO and Risk Manager.
  • Write and maintain clear, structured processes and procedures.
  • Collaborate with information technology, risk, compliance, and business units to ensure data handling aligns with regulatory and internal standards.
  • Maintain documentation related to data classification, retention schedules, and governance procedures.
  • Support data audits, regulatory exams, and assist in preparing reports for internal stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and track data governance projects and initiatives.
  • Facilitate communication between technical teams and business stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills—comfortable interacting with both senior management and technical staff.
  • Proven ability to write and maintain structured documentation, including policies, procedures, and workflows.
  • Working knowledge of data systems, metadata, and data lifecycle concepts.
  • Proactive, highly organized, and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to multitask and meet constant deadlines.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative, and complex environment.
  • Demonstrated ability as a team player and people developer.
  • 2-4 years of experience in data governance, compliance, records management, or related fields.
  • Experience writing business processes and procedures.

Nice to Have

  • Exposure to performance metrics (KPIs/KRIs) and roadmap planning.
  • Experience in a banking or financial services environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor's degree in information systems, Business Administration, Data Analytics, or a related field preferred.
