About the Role

The role of Datacenter Research Analyst, US focused, within S&P Global Market Intelligence's Datacenter Services and Infrastructure team, involves researching and analyzing trends, technologies, and market dynamics in the US datacenter industry. The team covers topics such as operational efficiency, sustainability, and the impact of hyperscale/cloud expansions, providing insights to vendors, investors, and industry practitioners. The successful candidate will support the team by conducting industry research, producing reports, and engaging with market stakeholders to shape market understanding and client strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct industry analyst research on the datacenter market and its trends, working independently and with a global team.
  • Assess build pipelines to understand who is building what and the scale of projects.
  • Understand pricing dynamics for colocation providers and vacancy rates within markets.
  • Write and publish short (2-page) and long (10-25 page) reports on datacenter markets, providers, and industry topics.
  • Develop and analyze end-user survey research related to datacenter infrastructure and services.
  • Engage in briefings with key vendors and attend virtual or in-person events focused on datacenter segments.
  • Respond to inquiry requests from market vendors and enterprise users.
  • Contribute to custom advisory research projects.
  • Collaborate with fellow analysts on cross-practice topics, such as the impact of datacenters on power utilities.

Requirements

  • 1-2 or more years of experience in datacenter services and infrastructure, with credible communication to practitioners, vendors, and investors.
  • Experience in product management, product marketing, industry analyst research, or related fields is considered a plus.
  • Strong writing skills with examples appropriate for the S&P TMT audience.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken) with superior communication skills.
  • An undergraduate or graduate degree in a technical field (math, science, engineering, IT) or in business, writing/communications, or liberal arts with relevant experience.
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally as conditions permit.
  • Inquisitive nature and eagerness to learn and explore industry trends.

Nice to Have

  • Exposure to or experience in broader IT markets.
  • Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel skills.
  • Experience with public speaking.
  • Fluent in Spanish or Portuguese.

Qualifications

  • An undergraduate or graduate degree in a technical or related field.
  • 1-2+ years' experience in datacenter services and infrastructure.
