About the Role

This position is a part-time Communications Representative for the Department of Diversity & Cultural Engagement at Oregon State University. The role involves creating and managing communication efforts to promote the Cultural Resource Centers and their initiatives, focusing on areas such as academic success, social justice, leadership, identity development, community & belonging, and well-being. The position offers transferable skills development in social media management, marketing, community engagement, and professional training within a university setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and engage with applicable social media platforms such as YouTube, Snapchat, and others, including event promotion, posts representing community topics, and sharing culturally relevant news stories.
  • Compose marketing materials and manage digital communication platforms, such as university listservs, newsletters, and publications.
  • Create and maintain a sense of community and belonging for on-campus, off-campus, and E-Campus students by spotlighting underrecognized community members and raising awareness of less visible identity groups.
  • Compile resources related to academic success and well-being by collaborating with departments like the Academic Success Center, Student Health Services, and Counseling & Psychological Services.
  • Coordinate promotional efforts for events related to the center or initiative, including photography and videography for pre- and post-event promotion.
  • Work with DCE's Marketing & Communications Coordinator for mentorship, skills development, and training on OSU branding guidelines.
  • Gain consent to use individuals' voices and images in communications and maintain records of release forms.
  • Engage in mutual learning on identity development and social justice, promoting active participation on social issues.
  • Manage outreach efforts for the CRC and/or initiative, including tabling at university-wide events, supporting outreach during Wee Week, and assisting with center tours and presentations.
  • Attend mandatory trainings, including fall training, ongoing sessions, weekly staff meetings, and professional development workshops.
  • Complete daily center tasks and focus on specialized projects as needed, with occasional evening and weekend hours.

Requirements

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study.
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible.
  • High School student: Regularly enrolled in high school or participating in homeschooling.
  • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term.
  • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term.
  • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term.
  • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term.
  • Minimum Cumulative GPA of 2.0.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated experience with social media platforms.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and prioritize tasks.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to historically underrepresented and/or marginalized groups on campus.

Nice to Have

  • Demonstrated ability in managing or moderating non-personal social media accounts, such as student organizations or community pages.
  • Proficiency in image and/or video editing tools like Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro, or social media videos.
  • Involvement with historically underrepresented and/or marginalized groups on campus, such as attending cultural events or volunteering.
  • Knowledge of community needs, issues impacting community, and understanding of visibility within communities.
  • Knowledge of written and visual communication styles and community stereotypes.

Qualifications

  • Full employment eligibility as per Oregon State University policies.
  • Enrollment in a qualifying educational program with the required credit hours.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.0.
