About the Role

The Development Director at La Clinica Center for Learning and Innovation is responsible for developing, leading, and executing the organization's fundraising strategy to grow contributed income support. This role involves overseeing all aspects of fundraising, including major gifts, grants, annual giving, corporate sponsorships, planned giving, and special events. The position works in coordination with the CEO and Chief Partnership Officer to build strong relationships with donors, community partners, and stakeholders, aligning fundraising activities with the organization's mission and strategic goals. Key Responsibilities

  • Research, design, implement, and evaluate comprehensive fundraising plans to achieve La Clinica's annual revenue goals and support strategic initiatives.
  • Develop strong links between giving opportunities and La Clinica's programs and services, engaging staff and community leaders in these strategies.
  • Research federal, state, and local public and private grant opportunities to identify new funding sources.
  • Identify, cultivate, steward, and solicit major donors, corporate sponsors, and grant-making institutions, serving as primary solicitor for key contributed income partners.
  • Research, design, implement, and evaluate personalized stewardship plans for major donors to deepen engagement and increase giving levels.
  • Research, design, implement, and evaluate donor engagement strategies, including direct mail campaigns, direct solicitation, online giving, and peer-to-peer fundraising.
  • Ensure growth of La Clinica's endowment fund through planned giving strategies and effective communication and marketing.
  • Plan, execute, and evaluate fundraising events to maximize engagement and revenue.
  • Ensure timely creation and submission of all fundraising proposals and reports.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with individual donors, foundations, and corporate partners through effective engagement, cultivation, and recognition.
  • Partner with staff and community members to leverage networks for fundraising and donor cultivation.
  • Coordinate with communications and community partnership staff to communicate impact through reports, newsletters, and presentations.
  • Ensure on-time submission of development-related proposals and reports to funders.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Partnership Officer to align fundraising strategies with organizational goals.
  • Lead and support the development team, providing coaching and guidance.
  • Work with various departments to ensure coordination and successful execution of development-supported initiatives.
  • Track fundraising metrics and provide regular reports to leadership.
  • Utilize outcome data to hold accountability for development goals and metrics.
  • Stay informed on philanthropic trends and adapt strategies accordingly.
  • Partner with the communications team to develop fundraising materials, donor appeals, and social media campaigns.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, business, communications, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in fundraising, development, or nonprofit leadership.
  • Proven track record of securing major gifts, grants, and corporate sponsorships.
  • Strong understanding of donor cultivation, stewardship, and fundraising best practices.
  • Strong understanding of donor ethics.
  • Experience in budget development and understanding of GAAP.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently while driving fundraising initiatives.
  • Intermediate level experience using fundraising CRM, preferably Raiser's Edge.
  • Intermediate level experience with Microsoft Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Ability to interact with individuals at various levels under stressful circumstances with tact and diplomacy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Nice to Have

  • Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) or Certified Specialist in Planned Giving (CSPG).
  • Preferred: 3 years of experience managing a development office.
  • Preferred: Advanced level experience with Microsoft Suite.
  • Preferred: Intermediate level experience with survey software (e.g., Survey Monkey, Google Forms, Question Pro, Qualtrics).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, business, communications, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in fundraising, development, or nonprofit leadership.
