About the Role

The Digital Producer leads the transition from broadcast focused newsrooms to multi-platform newsrooms through active daily example; providing training in methods, processes and tactics; as well as in creating/editing original content beyond that which is produced for on-air. The role involves reporting news stories for broadcast, reviewing and evaluating notes, researching background information, pitching stories, shooting and editing news reports, and engaging with viewers on social media platforms. The position requires developing and leading content strategies to build brand recognition and audience engagement across digital platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the transition from broadcast-focused newsrooms to multi-platform newsrooms by providing training and demonstrating methods, processes, and tactics.
  • Report news stories for broadcast, describing background and details of events.
  • Review and evaluate notes taken about event aspects to isolate pertinent facts and details.
  • Determine a story's emphasis, length, and format, and organize material accordingly.
  • Research and analyze background information related to news stories to provide complete and accurate information.
  • Gather information about events through research, interviews, experience, or attendance at functions.
  • Pitch stories to news managers and news producers relevant to the local community.
  • Receive assignments, evaluate leads and tips, and develop story ideas.
  • Discuss issues with producers and/or news managers to establish priorities.
  • Check reference materials such as books, news files, or public records to obtain relevant facts.
  • Revise work to meet editorial approval or fit time requirements.
  • Shoot and edit news events and reports, and present reports for all platforms.
  • Ensure all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
  • Write stories for the web and other media platforms.
  • Interact with viewers/users on social media sites.
  • Develop and lead winning strategies for station content.
  • Use social media and website to build and reinforce brand recognition and drive viewers to television.
  • Build and calendar digital campaigns to promote local shows and specials.
  • Create compelling short-form videos and eye-catching graphics for social media channels.
  • Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in Associated Press style, Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and Basic HTML preferred.
  • Maintain a positive work environment through active team participation and cooperation with co-workers in all departments.
  • Respond positively to feedback.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to ad lib when required.
  • Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, fax machines, and other office equipment.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
  • Flexibility to work any shift.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Adobe Dreamweaver and HTML.
