The Digital News Manager role involves overseeing digital content production, strategy, and team management to enhance audience engagement and traffic.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce digital and social content, including copy and video.
  • Research, report, write, and edit stories for web and other digital platforms.
  • Oversee and improve daily digital editorial content to increase user interactivity and traffic, especially in the local DMA.
  • Assist team in curating high-interest local content that maximizes engagement and repeat visits.
  • Review copy and correct errors in content, grammar, and punctuation, following editorial style and formatting guidelines.
  • Train, coach, and manage a team of local digital journalists.
  • Evaluate website analytics and observe traffic trends for audience growth strategy.
  • Work with the news director to craft and execute a digital strategy to grow distribution platforms and maximize readership, engagement, and video views.
  • Responsible for meeting local site KPI goals.
  • Promote news content on social media.
  • Serve as a bridge between digital and broadcast in the local newsroom.
  • Create opportunities to market digital content on broadcast and use social media and website to build brand recognition and drive viewers to television.
  • Monitor all forms of major local, state, and national media for breaking news, trending, and exclusive stories to grow engagement and traffic.
  • Respond positively to feedback.
  • Maintain some schedule flexibility, including nights and weekends.
  • Perform various other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Experience in digital content production, including copywriting and video.
  • Ability to research, report, write, and edit stories for digital platforms.
  • Knowledge of website analytics and traffic trend analysis.
  • Experience in managing or coaching a team of digital journalists.
  • Ability to develop and implement digital strategies to grow audience and engagement.
  • Strong editorial skills, including grammar, punctuation, and adherence to style guidelines.
  • Flexibility to work nights and weekends.
  • Ability to monitor and respond to media trends and breaking news.
