About the Role

The Digital Storyteller will work with the Assistant Director, Marketing and Communications in the AU Career Center. The primary focus will be to create videos, graphics, and social media content to showcase AU Career Center services and resources and student and alumni success stories. This position is available only to enrolled American University students and offers an opportunity to build experience, grow skills, and contribute to the university community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing a process to identify student and alumni success stories; scheduling and conducting video interviews; producing, and editing, these videos and other digital media featuring AU Career Center services.
  • Creating video content for social media sites, including Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn.

Requirements

  • Must be a current American University student.
  • Ability to initiate tasks without direct prompting.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Premiere, or willingness to achieve proficiency through self-guided online training and assistance from the Assistant Director, Marketing and Communications.
  • Familiarity with operating a professional camera and microphone for photo and video shoots.
  • Experience conducting interviews for news stories and developing video and graphics for web and social media.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Previous experience working in an office.
  • Attention to detail and deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Instagram, YouTube, and social media best practices.
  • Must reside in DC, Maryland, or Virginia during period of employment.

Nice to Have

  • Proficiency with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop or Illustrator or Canva.
  • Familiarity with career services and/or higher education.

Qualifications

  • Position is most appropriate for graduate students or an exceptionally experienced undergraduate seeking a career in marketing or communications.
  • Open to students with or without a Federal Work Study award.

Benefits & Perks

  • Part-Time position with 15 - 17 hours per week.
  • Hourly salary range of $18.10 - $19.00.
