About the Role

The Director of Advertising & Digital Marketing at UC Berkeley's Intercollegiate Athletics department is responsible for shaping the department's communications strategy by developing a unified view of the customer, refining the customer journey, and delivering personalized content across all channels and devices. This role involves leading digital marketing efforts to support revenue generation, overseeing campaigns across multiple platforms, and managing a team of digital marketing professionals. The position requires strategic thinking, creativity, and collaboration within a dynamic, high-performance environment dedicated to promoting fan engagement and revenue growth within collegiate athletics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop a unified view of the customer, refine the customer journey, and deliver personalized content across all channels and devices.
  • Lead the department's overall email marketing strategy, including creation, launch, management, and optimization of segmented and targeted programs to drive demand, retention, and customer loyalty.
  • Oversee digital strategy to support revenue generation efforts across platforms, including tracking key metrics, measuring ROI, and optimizing campaigns.
  • Develop and execute digital advertising strategies such as paid social media, SEO/SEM, and targeted campaigns for various sports and initiatives.
  • Create synergy between digital marketing, organic social media, and traditional advertising to maximize revenue streams.
  • Collaborate with the ticket office to create and manage email marketing campaigns within Paciolan and Eloqua systems.
  • Produce and implement a cohesive communication strategy for revenue initiatives including email, direct mail, social media, mobile apps, and digital advertising.
  • Conduct market research on fan engagement and customer behavior to improve retention and sales efforts.
  • Manage digital staff performance, career development, and adherence to standards.
  • Manage the digital marketing unit's budget and develop internal processes to improve strategic planning and technology investments.
  • Coordinate cross-functional efforts with internal units to ensure alignment with business objectives.
  • Guide day-to-day operations of the digital marketing team, including content development and storytelling.
  • Build relationships with external organizations and participate in events to support marketing initiatives.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the digital marketing team, fostering innovation and collaboration.
  • Make strategic decisions to drive fan growth, enhance brand presence, and maximize business impact.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in digital marketing, including email marketing, content creation, and analytics, preferably in sports or entertainment.
  • Expertise in email marketing platforms such as Paciolan, Eloqua, or similar, and marketing automation tools.
  • Strong understanding of digital advertising, SEO/SEM, and paid social media strategies.
  • Proven ability to track and analyze campaign performance focusing on engagement, conversion, ROI/ROAS, and lead generation.
  • Experience in developing and executing marketing strategies across multiple digital channels.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for presenting insights and recommendations.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects.
  • Knowledge of fan engagement and customer behavior analysis.
  • Strong project management skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.
  • Knowledge of NCAA and ACC rules and regulations.

  • Experience managing budgets in a finance role.
  • Supervising experience and team management skills.
  • Experience with sponsorships, content creation, and multimedia rights.
  • Familiarity with fundraising and direct mail campaigns.

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field.

Benefits & Perks

  • Full UC benefits package.
  • Salary range of $74,400 - $103,800, with a budgeted range of $85,000 - $95,000.
  • Paid time off for professional development (at least 80 hours annually).
  • Full-time, exempt, 40 hours per week, career position.
