About the Role

The Director, Data & Measurement at United Way of Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County provides technical leadership, operational direction, and strategic vision for the organization's Data & Measurement team. The role involves driving cross-departmental decision-making, expanding data-informed practices, and translating complex data into actionable strategies that support fundraising, community impact, and organizational goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage cross-functional data team; organize staff and resources to meet organizational goals and priorities.
  • Support staff development through coaching, feedback, and performance conversations; identify opportunities for skill development and implement learning plans.
  • Promote team coordination and communication by facilitating team meetings and overseeing work plans.
  • Understand internal processes conducted by direct reports and ensure processes are documented.
  • Develop internal team processes and procedures to optimize deliverables.
  • Establish strong cross-departmental relationships through regular data touchpoints with senior leadership and stakeholders, creating and sharing visualizations, reports, and presentations.
  • Measure and monitor United Way's strategic plan goals, including analyzing data to support high-impact objectives, developing goal metrics, and creating infrastructure to measure progress.
  • Measure and evaluate United Way Key Initiatives, including research, analysis, and developing impact goals and evaluation infrastructure.
  • Lead measurement of fundraising strategies by analyzing donor trends, evaluating ROI of fundraising channels, and supporting data-driven content for communications.
  • Oversee data collection, analysis, and reporting for funded nonprofits and internal dashboards.
  • Lead identification and implementation of improvements to data architecture, platforms, and data quality.
  • Develop policies and guidance to ensure high-quality data collection, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Manage vendor relationships and oversee data security and confidentiality policies.
  • Contribute to organizational learning by researching best practices, tracking trends, and embedding measurement and evaluation into organizational routines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
  • 5+ years experience leading and developing highly effective cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze large data sets to create actionable reports and visualizations.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Advanced skills in PowerBI or similar data visualization tools.
  • Experience with or ability to learn SQL.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Word and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with donor database platforms such as Andar CRM.
  • Experience with grant management software like e-Cimpact.
  • Experience with survey software such as i-CResults.
  • Understanding of modern database and information technologies, data architecture, and quality assurance.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit evaluation practices and performance monitoring.
  • Excellent report-writing, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and quantitative skills.
  • Ability to translate complex data issues for diverse audiences.
  • Experience creating dashboards to inform organizational decisions.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with analytics techniques to support organizational growth and impact goals.
  • Experience in nonprofit sector evaluation and outcomes measurement.
  • Knowledge of organizational data standards and security policies.

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.
