About the Role

The Director of Engineering (Marketing Services) at WillowTree, part of TELUS Digital, is a leadership role responsible for guiding and implementing strategy for Marketing Services within a collaborative, hybrid work environment. The role involves overseeing engineering teams, ensuring high-quality product delivery for Fortune 500 clients, fostering a culture of engagement, collaboration, and inclusion, and contributing to business growth through client relationships and team development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical and engineering leadership to guide decisions, envision long-term strategy, and plan product roadmaps for clients
  • Lead teams, individuals, and projects to successfully execute and deliver high-quality products that meet or exceed client needs
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and contribute to business development activities such as estimations, proposals, and pitches
  • Coach project-level leadership to align technical, product, business, and team goals, and to navigate challenges effectively
  • Simplify complexity and drive teams forward by cutting through noise
  • Serve as a point of leadership escalation for clients and teams
  • Facilitate information sharing and collaboration across business units to solve problems and execute organizational strategies
  • Conduct deep dives with teams during new project initiation
  • Assist teams during major launches while fostering autonomy and innovation
  • Contribute to hiring, retention, thought leadership, and resource estimation
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of engineering managers, including professional development, performance management, and coaching
  • Build self-sufficient project teams by leveraging skills, minimizing gaps, and balancing growth with client needs

Requirements

  • Recent and significant experience with software development and delivery processes across multiple technologies such as front-end web, backend services, and testing
  • Experience leading teams to deliver large and complex software projects for Fortune 500 clients
  • Comfortable working with multidisciplinary teams (design, strategy, analytics) to optimize product and project goals
  • Experience developing large, complex enterprise ecosystems and managing legacy system challenges
  • Deep understanding of project management methodologies including agile, scrum, kanban, and CI/CD practices
  • Experience managing and mentoring diverse teams and individuals from various backgrounds
  • Ability to simplify complex problems, identify root causes, and communicate priorities clearly
  • Effective and empathetic communication skills with teams and clients of differing goals and backgrounds
  • Experience building and navigating external client relationships to remove obstacles and ensure successful product delivery
  • Experience working with key client stakeholders to improve engineering and product processes
  • Broad knowledge of building user-centered products using analytics, research, design, and data systems
  • Experience using data to inform product decisions and balancing ROI with advanced product features

  • Experience with multiple CMS technologies
  • Experience with e-commerce platforms
  • Experience and certification with Adobe Experience Cloud products

Qualifications

  • Experience with solutions and challenges across multiple technologies such as front-end web, backend services, and testing
  • Proven track record leading large, complex software projects for Fortune 500 clients
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams and complex enterprise ecosystems
  • Knowledge of project management best practices including agile, scrum, kanban, and CI/CD
