About the Role

The Director of Marketing will develop, implement and execute strategic marketing, digital, branding and promotional plans for Vanderbilt University's Athletics Department, focusing on men's basketball and other assigned sports. The role involves creating engaging in-venue atmospheres, promoting events across multiple mediums, coordinating ticket sales and attendance initiatives, and maximizing revenue streams to support the department's goals. Vanderbilt's Athletics Department emphasizes integrity, character, sportsmanship, and victory, preparing student-athletes to become leaders and champions in life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Actively participates in planning, development and implementation of short and long-range marketing strategies.
  • Works closely and collaboratively with Communications, Operations Ticket Sales and other university departments to develop and implement marketing, promotional, social media and digital advertising plans and campaigns.
  • Oversees marketing and fan experience elements, implements sponsor activation and game presentation for men's basketball and other assigned sports.
  • Assumes responsibility for planning and implementation of efforts to drive ticket revenue, game day attendance and overall brand awareness.
  • Generates revenue through season ticket sales, single game and group ticket sales and other identified or new revenue streams.
  • Manages applicable department budgets.
  • Leads department initiatives for Athletics advertising efforts.
  • Oversees and executes the creation of marketing collateral (print, digital) and in-venue entertainment items.
  • Defines key metrics to measure the effectiveness of marketing initiatives, utilizes reporting, develops insights and communicates strategies to key department members.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Marketing or related field is necessary.
  • A Master's Degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of previous experience is necessary.
  • Previous experience with an email platform such as Oracle Eloqua and Adobe Creative Suite is necessary.
  • Knowledge of digital marketing strategies is necessary.
  • Be a proactive thinker interested in developing and executing new ideas to improve the brand.
  • Organized, detail oriented and able to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work a non-standard work week including nights, weekends & holidays.

Nice to Have

  • Master's Degree in Marketing or related field.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing or related field.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience.
