Director of Web Strategy and Services

About the Role

Key Responsibilities

• Lead website development efforts, supervise the Web Services team, and oversee all aspects of web project management for www.westernu.edu.
• Manage the planning and production of all website content creation and optimization projects.
• Work with the web team to deploy website and tool optimizations and manage bug fixes.
• Manage web projects and requests, allocate resources accordingly, and work outside scheduled hours if necessary.
• Perform SEO analysis and develop plans to improve web page visibility.
• Strategize and manage web initiatives including redesign projects, web performance, and integration of web solutions.
• Collaborate with campaign management on strategy development, budget oversight, audience targeting, execution, performance tracking, and data analysis to achieve marketing goals.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in Web Development, Computer Science, Digital Media, Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in web strategy, development, and digital marketing technologies.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in project management, including leading cross-functional teams.
• Strong knowledge of web design principles, UX/UI design, HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Experience with WordPress CMS and understanding of its architecture.
• Extensive knowledge of SEO principles and processes.
• Familiarity with marketing technology platforms such as Google Tag Manager, analytics dashboards, CRM, and marketing automation tools.
• Excellent communication skills, including technical writing and end-user documentation.
• Ability to lead cross-departmental collaboration and manage multiple projects.

Nice to Have

• Experience in a higher education, nonprofit, or similarly complex organizational environment.
• Proven experience leading web and digital strategy in complex organizations.
• Expertise in front-end development and guiding technical staff.
• Deep understanding of SEO implementation and web analytics tools like Google Analytics and Tag Manager.
• Experience managing major website redesigns and web performance optimization.
• Knowledge of web accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG 2.1) and inclusive digital design.
• Experience working with external vendors or agencies for web and marketing solutions.
• Track record of managing and mentoring technical and creative staff.
• Experience leading digital transformation initiatives.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of project management experience.
