The Director, Social Strategy is a leadership role responsible for setting the direction for social strategies, campaigns, and activations, guiding brand approaches on social platforms, and growing the social capability at VML. The role involves making strategic decisions, communicating effectively with clients, and managing large-scale social media initiatives for enterprise clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and oversee the creation of social strategies, social playbooks, activations, and campaign ideas
  • Direct and synthesize research, social listening, and other data to guide a brand's strategic decisions
  • Partner with creative, strategy, data, and media teams to define and achieve a brand's social marketing goals
  • Hire, supervise, and guide the development of junior team members
  • Plan, execute, and oversee social media campaigns, including user-generated content (UGC), influencer programs, and real-time activations
  • Identify and surface insights from community behaviors, mentions, and 1:1 interactions relevant to the brand
  • Drive agency growth through proactive business development and strategic positioning of services

Requirements

  • 8+ years of social marketing experience
  • Experience coaching and developing one or more direct reports
  • Advanced understanding of social platforms, audiences, and behaviors, with the ability to make sound decisions based on that knowledge
  • Ability to apply knowledge of social media to effectively solve a wide variety of client challenges
  • Strong communication and presentation skills in various formats and settings
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across organizations, departments, teams, and individuals

Nice to Have

  • Experience managing large-scale, complex social media initiatives for enterprise clients
  • Experience in social listening and data analysis
  • Leadership experience in a creative or marketing agency environment

Qualifications

  • Formal experience or background in social marketing and strategy
