About the Role

The Director for Special Events and Marketing at Mount Sinai Health System will be responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating events that engage faculty, students, and community constituencies. Acting as the lead strategist on all events and marketing initiatives within the Department of Medical Education, the role involves project management, overseeing marketing campaigns, digital content, creative materials, and leading the special events team for departmental, institutional, and high-profile events. The position serves as the primary point-of-contact between the Department of Medical Education and the health system's Departments of Marketing and Communications and Development/Special Events, ensuring collaboration and consistency across initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic guidance to Medical Education leadership in developing and executing special events marketing and communication strategies that align with system priorities.
  • Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of special events and marketing projects, including high-profile student and faculty events, digital campaigns, website content, and creative production.
  • Manage the department's brand attributes and ensure consistency in messaging and visual identity across all digital platforms.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, external vendors, and creative agencies to develop marketing collateral such as digital, print, and video materials.
  • Identify and conceptualize creative events, including purpose, targeted audience, pricing strategy, themes, location, timeline, and run of show.
  • Coordinate digital marketing strategies to increase visibility and engagement, monitor campaign effectiveness, and recommend optimizations.
  • Plan and manage communications for key institutional events like Orientation, White Coat Ceremony, Graduation, and Match Day.
  • Serve as the liaison for internal departments, faculty, and students planning events, providing creative solutions and support.
  • Act as the day-to-day contact for stakeholders regarding events, marketing projects, social media, and web content, ensuring alignment with broader initiatives.
  • Work with the Development Special Events Team and Communications Department to manage resources, vendors, and budgets for events and marketing efforts.
  • Hire, train, and supervise all Special Events staff and oversee event volunteers, ensuring team stability and effectiveness.
  • Track performance metrics of marketing initiatives and provide regular updates to leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing and Communications or related fields (preferred).
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in marketing, project management, or communications.
  • Experience in higher education or non-profit marketing is preferred.
  • Experience in event programming, management, and production for 3-5 years.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to lead multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience with digital marketing strategies, social media, and website content management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to collaborate across teams and manage relationships with vendors and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and manage projects with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
